Established April 23,= 1993
Who We= Are
We are Deaf and Hearing, Japanese and=
non-Japanese, pastors, missionaries and lay people, from various church
backgrounds who first came together with a desire for Japanese Deaf to
have a Bible in their own language; Japanese Sign Language. While this,
our main focus, found immediate expression in ViBi (Video Bible), we are
gradually expanding our scope to fulfill our whole mission.
The J-DEM= Mission
Sign Language Bible=
Translation
Translate the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures into
Japanese Sign Language and produce them on visual media, placing these
Bible tapes for sale in bookstores throughout= Japan.
Research
Gather accurate statistics on Japanese Deaf
Christians. At present there is not even an accurate count available.
Conduct linguistic research in Bible related
signing and other areas which aid in Bible translation.
Dissemination of= Information
Publish a newsletter highlighting Deaf church,
Bible, and translation related topics.
Bridging the Church and the
Deaf Community
Serve as a resource to churches on Deaf -Hearing
issues, provide helps to those with a burden
for Deaf people, and hold Sign Language classes for
Hearing churches.
Planning Workshops and= Seminars
Hold workshops and seminars in Sign Language on
Deaf church issues and translation issues.
